Hey, take a look around you & tell me what you see,

I see the little children mocking you & me.

Let’s get our act together, and help the children learn

that they can live in peace, forget how to burn

Seeing the reflections of our lives on their face

They are the portraits of our lives

I’ve seen their happy faces glowing in the sun

& it warms my heart knowing that’s a part of me.

And when their anger surface, & bullets fly in their eyes,

it makes me shudder thinking, knowing that’s a part of me

"Portraits" is generally about how our children reflect the good and the bad
in ourselves, and should be required listening for parents considering
irresponsibility.

This song has an almost hypnotic chord and rhythm progression, and aside
from some light harmony is almost entirely her alone.
